In showrooms, you usually test flooring in shoes. At home, though, many people walk barefoot or in socks, especially kids and older family members. A floor that feels fine in shoes can be surprisingly slippery in socks—particularly polished tiles or very smooth laminates.
If you can, step on a sample in socks and mimic real movements: quick turns, small sideways steps, getting up from a chair. If you feel even slightly nervous, imagine that multiplied when there’s a bit of water, dust, or when someone is in a hurry.
Choosing a surface with a little grip, or a less glossy finish, can quietly prevent a lot of slips and falls. Comfort underfoot is not just about softness; it’s also about confidence.
