Some floors are quiet underfoot; others amplify every step. Hollow-sounding laminates, certain tiles over empty screeds, or thin wood can make simple walking sound like a drum. In multi-storey homes or flats, that noise travels—both to rooms below and within your own home.
If you can, walk on a sample installation wearing normal shoes. Does it sound dull and solid, or echoey and loud? Imagine kids running, chairs being dragged, someone pacing during a phone call. Will the noise bother you or neighbours?
In upstairs bedrooms and living areas, especially, a slightly quieter floor can mean better relationships with the people downstairs—and a calmer home overall.
