Most people remember their ceiling fans only on the first truly hot day. You switch them on and a circle of dust starts spinning above your head. That dust then spreads slowly across the room, onto surfaces and into the air you’re breathing.
If you dust fans before summer fully hits, you start the season with clean blades. You’re not raining months of accumulated dust onto beds, sofas and desks. Fans also run a bit more efficiently when they’re not carrying extra weight and grime, though the effect is small.
More importantly, you won’t spend the first hot evening regretting not cleaning them earlier while you stand on a chair in sweat trying to wipe them in a hurry.
