Often we meet the senior person from a company—the designer, the main contractor, the owner—and assume they’ll be the one checking everything. In reality, they may visit occasionally while a site supervisor or foreman handles the day-to-day.
Knowing who will actually be there daily matters. That’s the person tradespeople listen to, who solves on-the-spot problems, who makes small judgment calls when you’re not around. If they’re experienced, patient and communicative, your life will be much easier.
Ask: What’s their name? How long have they worked with this team? Will they be dedicated to your project or juggling five sites? Can you call them directly?
A good supervisor can rescue an average design; a careless one can ruin a great design. You’re not just hiring a company; you’re also, indirectly, hiring the people on the ground.
